The Airline Lady Vikings and Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing Lady Lions opened district play Tuesday night with victories.

Airline routed Captain Shreve 55-25 in a District 1-5A game at Airline. New Tech edged Ringgold 33-30 in a District 1-1A game at Ringgold.

Elsewhere, Haughton fell to defending state champion Southwood 61-54 in a hard-fought 1-5A opener at Haughton.

Benton dropped a 49-42 decision to Fair Park at home in a 1-4A opener. Lady Tigers star Madi Sessions suffered an ankle injury midway through the third quarter.

In District 1-3A, Bossier lost 54-42 at Evangel.

At Airline, Kei McCoy scored 19 points and Jasmyn Carswell 10 to lead the Lady Vikings (11-9) to the victory.

At Haughton, the Lady Bucs fought back from deficits of 13 points after the first quarter and nine at the half.

They trailed by just two, 40-38, after three quarters. Ebone’ Green’s two free throws tied the game at 49 with 3:39 left.

After Southwood went back ahead 50-49, Haughton had a chance to take the lead but couldn’t get a 10-footer to fall.

The Lady Cowboys (14-6) scored six straight after that to regain control.

Chelcy Swint led the Lady Bucs (16-6) with 19 points. Mikayla Barber added 13 and Brittany Robinett 10.

At Benton, the Lady Tigers couldn’t overcome the loss of Sessions against Fair Park.

Sessions had 13 points when she left the game with 3:45 left in the third. X-rays showed nothing broken. But the bad sprain will likely keep her out of action for awhile.

Gabby Jackson led Benton (14-8) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Brandy Harris chipped in with 10 points.

At Evangel, Tiffany Lynn tossed in 14 points in the Lady Kats’ loss. Bossier dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-1 in district.
