Tuesday girls basketball: Benton holds off Haughton

The Benton Lady Tigers and Bossier Lady Kats prevailed in games matching parish teams Tuesday night.

Benton downed the Haughton Lady Bucs 55-49 at Benton and Bossier routed Parkway 68-41 at Bossier.

Elsewhere, Airline knocked off Ruston 47-44 at Airline and Louisiana New Tech at Plain Dealing edged Booker T. Washington 32-29 at Plain Dealing.

The Benton-Haughton game wasn’t decided until the final minute.

Haughton rallied from a six-point halftime deficit and took a 33-30 lead midway through the third quarter.

Two big 3-pointers by Madi Sessions keyed a 13-4 Benton run that gave the Lady Tigers a 43-37 lead with late in the third quarter.

Haughton rallied again in the fourth. A couple of baskets by Brittany Robinett put the Lady Bucs on top 47-45. But Sessions converted a 3-point play to put Benton ahead for good 48-47 with 3:02 left.

Down 49-47, Haughton missed several shots underneath the basket.

Megan Fream then made four clutch free throws to seal the victory.

Sessions led Benton (13-7) with 23 points, including four 3s, and 11 rebounds. Fream added 10 points. Gabby Jackson had nine points and 11 rebounds. Arleshia Carper had 12 rebounds.

Robinett paced Haughton (15-5) with 18 points. Mikayla Barber tossed in 12 and Ebone’ Green added 10.

At Bossier, the Lady Kats (5-11) got 25 points from Tiffany Lynn in the win over Parkway.

Necka Wynn hit three 3-points and finished with 13 points. Mikayla King had 10 points.

Tyra Kidd led Parkway (3-11) with 10.

At Airline, Tasha Shiflett hit a late 3-pointer to give Airline the victory.

The Lady Vikings (9-9) rallied from seven down at the start of the fourth quarter.

Kei McCoy and Jasmyn Carswell scored 15 each to lead Airline.
