The Bossier City Police Department is investigating a fatal accident in which a man was struck and killed by a train.
The accident happened just after 11 a.m. at the Airline Drive crossing immediately south of Interstate 20. According to witnesses, Stephen Tyler Downs, 22, of Ruston was walking south on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Airline Drive when he attempted to cross the railroad tracks in front of a moving train and was struck. Witnesses tell police the crossing’s warning lights and crossing gates were operational at the time.
The northbound lanes of Airline Drive were temporarily closed at Old Minden Road for approximately two hours while the BCPD’s Crash Investigation Unit worked the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.

The BCPD’s Crash Investigation Unit has been called to the scene.
All northbound lanes of traffic on Airline Drive are temporarily closed at Old Minden Road while police investigate the accident. Southbound traffic on Airline Drive remains open. More information will be released when it becomes available.
