Gabby Patronis had 13 aces and Ashley Haigler 11 to help the Airline Lady Vikings defeat the North Caddo Lady Rebels in three sets in a non-district volleyball game Thursday night at North Caddo.
Airline won 25-10, 25-5 and 25-10.
Patronis also had four kills, one assist and two digs. Haigler added three kills and three assists.
The Lady Vikings improved to 3-4 on the season. Airline went 1-3 in the Broadmoor Tournament in Baton Rouge last weekend.
More importantly, though, Airline donated $500 from a fundraiser last month to assist Denham Springs High volleyball. The team lost almost everything in last month’s devastating floods in the Baton Rouge area.
The Lady Vikings also had T-shirts made with both schools’ names on them and ate lunch with the Denham Springs players. Each team made posters supporting the other and the players cheered for each other during the tournament. The only DSHS game that didn’t conflict with an Airline game was one against Ruston.
Airline opens District 1, Division I play Tuesday at Byrd, last year’s runner-up.
Elsewhere, the Haughton Lady Bucs improved to 2-0 with a five-set victory over Mansfield at Haughton. The Lady Bucs host Loyola Monday before beginning District 1-I play at Booker T. Washington.
