Volleyball: Airline opens defense of district title with win; Haughton improves to 3-0

The Airline Lady Vikings opened defense of their District 1-I championship with a straight sets victory over the Parkway Lady Panthers on Thursday at Airline.

Meanwhile, the Haughton Lady Bucs improved to 3-0 with a five-set non-district victory over Captain Shreve at Haughton. Haughton lost the first set 25-20 then rallied to win the next two 25-21 and 25-19. Shreve evened the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory. The Lady Bucs then pulled out the victory in the final set, 15-12.

Haughton’s Laurel Emanuel had seven kills and eight aces. Madison Shelton had five aces and five kills. Arielle Emanuel had five aces and seven assists. Reanna Crumpler had seven digs.

Airline’s Gabby Patronis had 24 aces, one kill, one block and four digs against Parkway. Kaylea Noble had one ace, six kills, two blocks and one dig. Zahria Lloyd had 12 aces, one block and eight assists.

Airline (2-3) won one of three games in the Woodlawn tournament in Baton Rouge Friday and Saturday. The Lady Vikings defeated The Church Academy 25-16, 25-18 and lost to Hahnville 25-12, 25-20 Friday. They lost to Slidell 25-18, 25-18 Saturday.

Slidell was a Division I quarterfinalist last season, and Hahnville reached the second round.

Patronis had five aces, one assist and seven digs against the Church Academy. Brooklyn Brandon had three kills, three assists and six digs.

Lloyd had two kills, nine assists and two digs against Hahnville. Brandon had one ace, four kills, one assist and two digs. Noble had three kills, one block and three digs.

Lloyd had seven assists and seven digs against Slidell. Noble had four kills, three blocks and one dig. Patronis had three aces, two kills and four digs.
