Volleyball: Airline suffers first loss in district play


The Airline Lady Vikings fell to defending District 1, Division I champion Ruston in four sets Thursday night at Airline.

The Lady Vikings lost the first set 25-22 and then evened the match with a 25-21 second-set victory. The Lady Bearcats won a tight third set 25-21 and then closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth.

Airline fell to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in district play. With one game left in the first half of district play, Ruston (12-6, 5-1) and Airline are tied for first.

Captain Shreve (10-7, 4-2) and Byrd (8-5, 4-2) are tied for third. Byrd defeated Captain Shreve in straight sets Thursday.

Haughton, which defeated Northwood 25-15, 25-11, 25-20 Wednesday night, is 7-3 overall and 3-3 in district.

Airline’s Lauren Pilcher had five aces, two kills, five blocks and three digs against Byrd. Kaylea Noble had three aces, two kills, five blocks and three digs.

Jordan Digilormo was named Haughton’s Player of the Match against Northwood, according to MaxPreps.

Airline closes out the first half of district play Tuesday at Caddo Magnet. Haughton hosts Captain Shreve.
