Volleyball: Airline wins thriller over Captain Shreve for third straight victory

The Airline Lady Vikings won their third straight district volleyball game Thursday, defeating Captain Shreve in a fifth-set tiebreaker at Airline.

Airline lost the first set 25-18 but came back to win the second 26-24. After the Lady Gators took the third set 25-20, the Lady Vikings rebounded again, winning the fourth 25-19.

Airline dominated the tiebreaker, winning 15-5.

Shelbi Chaddick had two aces, 22 kills and 22 digs. Haylea Patterson had five aces, one kill and 24 digs. Courtney Reide had 24 digs.

Ashley Haigler had seven aces, three kills and 25 assists. Cassie Bailey had nine aces, five kills and four digs. Lauren Pilcher had seven aces and six kills.

In the tiebreaker, Bailey’s aces set the tone, Airline coach Reggie Digilormo said.

Airline also won the JV game 25-13, 25-15. Kaylea Noble had six aces, five kills, one assist and eight digs. Sydney Baughn had four aces, two kills, 11 assists and three digs.

The Airline varsity also defeated Booker T. Washington 25-11, 25-10, 25-7 on Tuesday. Last week, Airline defeated Caddo Magnet 25-15, 25-12, 27-25.

Chadick had 15 aces, seven kills, three assists and four digs against BTW. Haigler had 10 aces, two kills and eight assists.

Haigler had three aces, seven kills, 10 assists and three digs against Magnet. Danielle Niederhofer had five aces, eight kills, and 13 digs. Patterson had four aces, one kill and 16 digs.

The Airline JV defeated BTW 25-15, 25-15. Elizabeth McKain had nine aces, three kills and three digs. Katie Floyd had seven aces, three assists and two digs.

Airline returns to action Oct. 20 at Ruston.
