Volunteers for Youth Justice to hold Child Abuse Awareness Ceremony April 5

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. In the state of Louisiana, 39 children died as a result of child abuse and neglect in 2015.

Join Volunteers for Youth Justice at the annual “Light of Hope” Child Abuse Awareness Ceremony on the steps of the Caddo Juvenile Courthouse (1835 Spring Street) at 5:30 pm, Tuesday April 5th. Sponsored by Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ) and the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program.

“Light of Hope” is a national movement to raise awareness of abused and neglected children.
CASA recruits and trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children placed in foster care. In 2015, CASA’s staff and volunteers provided services to 641 children and their families in six parishes throughout northwest Louisiana, helping abused and neglected children find safe, permanent homes.

CASA desires additional volunteers to support the actual need in our community.  As 2015 ended, there were 166 children waiting for a CASA volunteer to advocate for them through this difficult time. By volunteering, you can be the “Voice of a Child” in the court system.
