
Welna Eloise Hesseltine Givens
Benton, LA – Welna Eloise Hesseltine Givens, 85, of Benton, LA passed away, the morning of March 28, 2020.
A private graveside service will be held in her honor at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 1, 2020 within Hill Crest Memorial Park, with Brother Shane Nugent presiding. Welna was born to the proud parents Victor and Mary Hesseltine, on October 21, 1934 in Woodsboro, TX and later graduated from Sinton High School.
On August 8, 1953, she married Alton Givens, and Welna became a “Military Wife”. The couple, and the children they raised lived mostly in Oklahoma, Maine, and Puerto Rico before Mr. Givens ultimately retired in Louisiana. Welna worked over twenty-two years for the Bossier Parish School board, as the Secretary, for the Assistant Superintendent.
Welna was a member of the Officer Wives Club, as well as a member of the Gourmet Club, as she enjoyed Gourmet foods, preparing Gourmet foods, and hosting the events in her home during the monthly rotations. In addition to her passion for cooking, was her love of gardening.
Preceding Mrs. Givens in death were: father, Victor Weldon Hesseltine; mother Mary Eloise Gipson Hesseltine, her husband of over 33 years, Alton Clark Givens; brother, Melvin Hesseltine; Grandson, Robert Clark “Bubba” Givens; brother, Jim Hesseltine; son Weldon Clark Givens; and brother, Weldon Hessltine.
Left to cherish her memory are: son, Dennis Mark (and Sandy) Givens of Benton, LA; grandson, Darrell Dewayne (and Tiffany) Givens, of Bossier City, LA; granddaughter, Tonya Suzanne Givens (and Craig) Minard, of Keller, TX; great-grandchildren: Dalton Caleb Witte, Hannah Kalani Tolar, Tristan Kai Tolar, McKaila Grace Givens, Luke Edward Minard, Ryan William Minard, and Olivia Malia Givens; siblings: Annette Imes, of Ft. Worth, Tx, Morris Hesseltine, of Grandbury, TX; Gerald Hesseltine, of Refugio, TX, Ronny Hesseltine, of Sinton, TX, and Donny (and Susie) Hesseltine, of Beaumont, TX.
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Robert Hessletine, Hunter Hesseltine, Huston Hesseltine, Chuck Duncan, Donny Hesseltine, and Ronny Hesseltine.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations be made in Welna’s honor to Cross Point Baptist Church in Bossier City.
A Memorial Service celebrating Welna’s life will be held at a later date at Cross Point Baptist Church.
