HAUGHTON – William Carl Beene, Sr., 80, passed away on May 26, 2014 as a result of a stroke. Bill was born in Minden on February 17, 1934 to William Corbin Beene and Willie Bolin Beene. He attended Springhill High School, and on February 17, 1951 entered the U.S. Army. Bill served three years including a year in Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with rank of sergeant. Bill is a retired machine operator for the International Paper Mill in Springhill, LA.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Willie Bolin Beene, wife Jewel Stinson Beene, daughter Rachel Beene, and sisters Corba Mae Stebenson and Martile Farrington.
He is survived by sweetheart Vera Meyer and family; son William C. Beene, Jr.; daughter Kathy Beene Cagle; sisters Audrey Brock, Parnell Brunner, and Mildred Hines; grandchildren Adam McWhiney, Jared McWhiney, Noah Sullivan, Ashley Sullivan, and Natalie Sullivan; and 12 beloved great grandchildren.
Visitation for William Beene will be held at noon on Saturday, May 31st at Bailey Funeral Home, 304 First Street Northwest, Springhill, LA 71075. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery on Cemetery Road.
