BOSSIER CITY – A Memorial service celebrating the life of William Robert McRae will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Danny Gleason of Benton United Methodist Church will be officiating the service. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday from noon until time of service.
Robert was born December 27, 1946 in Wadesboro, N.C. and went home to be with our Lord and Savior on February 14, 2015 following a lengthy illness.
Robert moved to Louisiana in 1960. He graduated from Benton High School and furthered his education at Louisiana State University. He entered into the United States Air Force, where he served four years. In 1975, he chose a career in the oilfield and became a Chief Rig Engineer and retired in 2003.
He enjoyed hunting all his life and he was so proud when he killed two of the largest deer taken from Elmwood Hunters Club, Tensas Parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter and Lois Griffin McRae; brothers, Preston and Frank McRae; sister, Susan Edmisten; grandson, Joe Michael Geter and former father-in-law, J.A. “Sonny” Dunnam, Jr.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Lisa McRae Geter of Katy, TX; grandsons, Brandon Michael Price, Dylan McRae Price and Taylor Joseph Geter; brother, Walton E. McRae and wife Virginia of Haughton, LA; sisters, Mildred Hudson, Carolyn Downer and Lois Hall all of North Carolina. He is also survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Nancy Dunnam Roper and former mother-in-law, Frances Dunnam and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or the charity of their choice .
