Women’s college basketball: BPCC falls to Kilgore despite Lewis’ big game

Ma’Kaila Lewis scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the BPCC Lady Cavs fell to Kilgore College 63-56 in a Region XIV game Saturday in The Billy Montgomery Gymnasium.

BPCC dropped to 13-13 overall and 6-16 in the conference. Kilgore improved to 19-9 and 9-7.

BPCC shot just 26 percent from the field. The Lady Cavs went to the free throw line 35 times but made only 18.

Even so, BPCC had a chance in the final minute after trailing by double digits most of the game.

Down 60-55 with 18 seconds left, the Lady Cavs made just one of three free throws after a foul on a 3-point attempt.

Kilgore made three free throws in the final seconds to preserve the victory.

Rahmena Henderson led Kilgore with 26 points. Jada Hood scored 16 and Kerrighan Dunn 13.

Kilgore was 14-of-22 from the line.

BPCC has two games left in the regular season. The Lady Cavs visit Paris Junior College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and host Angelina College at 2 Saturday, Feb. 26.
