Women’s college basketball: BPCC falls to No. 3 Chipola, No. 1 Gulf Coast State next

The Bossier Parish Community College Lady Cavs fell to Chipola College 87-67 on Wednesday in the Gulf Coast Classic at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Fla.

Chipola (12-0) is ranked No. 3 in the nation in NJCAA Division I. The Lady Cavs (5-7) face No. 1 Gulf Coast State (12-0) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Freshman guard Ashlyn Jacobs led BPCC with 22 points. Sophomore forward Samarius Colquitt had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore T’Erika Bell had 12 rebounds.

The Lady Cavs got off to a slow start and trailed by 14 at the end of the first quarter. BPCC coach John Rennie liked the way his team stayed with Chipola the final three quarters.

“If we play the first quarter like we played the last three, it’s a completely different game,” he said in a text message.
