Work to begin Saturday on Swan Lake Rd. bridge

Work is scheduled to begin Saturday, Nov. 19 to replace the Willow Chute Bayou bridge on Swan Lake Rd. near the intersection with Airline Drive, according to Bossier Parish Police Jury officials.

Parish Engineer Butch Ford said the existing wooden beam structure would be replaced temporarily with two nine-foot diameter tank cars.

“This two-span bridge has reached a point where it needs to be removed and replaced,” Ford said. “We’re using tank cars because interrupting traffic there is a concern and constructing a new bridge would take about a month.”

Parish crews should have the bridge completed before Thanksgiving on Nov. 24, Ford predicted.

“We’re closing Swan Lake Rd. at that bridge during the Thanksgiving holiday because school will be closed,” he added.

Primary detour route for residents on the northern section of Swan Lake Rd. during construction will be from Airline Dr. to I-220 to Swan Lake Rd. An alternate route is Airline Dr. to Wemple Rd. to Crosscreek to Duckwater Landing and onto Swan Lake Rd.
