Wrestling: Airline wins Lone Survivor tournament

The Airline Vikings won the Lone Survivor Wrestling Tournament by the narrowest of margins at Parkway on Saturday.

The Vikings amassed 171 points. Live Oak finished second with 170. Host Parkway was third with 154 and Benton finished fourth with 97.
Airline’s Christian Walden, who went undefeated, was named Outstanding Wrestler in the lower weight divisions.

Walden won the 145-pound class with a 12-2 decision over Parkway’s Nathan Pitts.

Airline’s Tony Lococo and DJ Evans also won. Lococo defeated Parkway’s Hunter Huckaby 15-7 at 138 pounds. Evans pinned Live Oak’s Kyle Robers in 3:11 at 160 pounds.

Other parish champions were Benton’s Hayden Shankle (113), Parkway’s Matthew Pitts (126) and Parkway’s Zac Funderburk (152).

Shankle pinned Parkway’s Garrett Strozier in 5:01 in the championship match. Pitts won a 13-3 decision over Tristan Andrews. Funderburk edged Austin Many of Riverdale 7-6.

Other parish runner-up finishers were Airline’s JuJu Jones (120), Benton’s Jordan White (170), Bossier’s Isaiah McKinsey (195) and Benton’s Chauncey Taylor (285).

Parish third-place finishers were Haughton’s Dylan Holliday (120), Airline’s Scott Prouty (132), Airline’s Keegan Gilligan (170) and Airline’s Eric McGuire (220).
