The Parkway Lady Panthers and Benton Lady Tigers picked up victories in tournaments Thursday.
Parkway defeated Vandebilt Catholic 55-43 in the Sunday Players Showdown in the Lake Basketball Classic in Lake Charles. Benton edged Hicks 44-42 in the South Beauregard tournament in Longville.
Elsewhere, Plain Dealing fell to host West Ouachita 70-40 in the West Ouachita tournament in West Monroe.
Dakota Howard and Savannah Wilson led Parkway with 22 and 18 points, respectively. Zara Baker added 10.
The game was tied at 23 at the half. Wilson scored nine in the third quarter, helping Parkway take take a 38-36 lead.
Baker was 3-of-4 from the free throw line and scored seven in the fourth. Howard scored six and Wilson four as Parkway pulled away.
Two-time defending non-select Division I Parkway (8-0) will play Baton Rouge Woodlawn (7-0), last season’s select Division I runner-up, in the quarterfinals Friday at 8:30 p.m. Woodlawn defeated defending non-select Division V champion Fairview 68-62 in the first round.
Vandebilt Catholic, a select Division II semifinalist last season, dropped to 4-2.
Taylor Brown led Benton with 12 points. Sugar Sanchez added nine. Kryshna Bostic and Lainey Lafitte had eight each.
Benton improved to 5-2 with its third straight victory. Hicks, the 2023-24 non-select Division V runner-up, dropped to 6-6.
Jakayla Douglas led Plain Dealing (4-3) with 15 points. Janiya Douglas added eight.
West Ouachita improved to 6-0.
