The Consolidated Waterworks and Sewerage District #1 (CWSD#1) will conduct smoke
testing on the sewer lines on Platt Drive near Taylor Bend Street in the Eastwood area of
Haughton tomorrow.
Officials say that smoke testing is one of several methods they use to identify cracks and
unauthorized connections to the sanitary sewer system. In addition, it is an effective and
economical way to identify problem areas in a sewer line quickly.
Smoke testing is a harmless test method that uses an odorless, non-toxic mist that does
not stain. This mist has been endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for
over 20 years for smoke testing.
If a leak in a line is discovered on a homeowner’s property, they will be notified either in
person or by mail.
