Excitement rippled through Bossier Schools on Friday, January 24, 2025, as Dallas Cowboys defensive back Israel Mukuamu returned to his roots, spending the day inspiring students and giving back to the community that helped launch his career.

The Parkway High School Class of 2018 graduate began his day at Bossier Elementary School, speaking to a 5th-grade P.E. class about the importance of education and hard work. Each student received an autographed photo as a keepsake of the visit. Mukuamu also met with administrators and took photos with staff.

At Cope Middle School, Mukuamu addressed boys’ and girls’ P.E. classes, sharing his journey from Parkway High to the University of South Carolina and eventually to the NFL. His message focused on perseverance and overcoming adversity.

The day concluded at Parkway High School, where Mukuamu presented a signed Dallas Cowboys game jersey to Head Football Coach Coy Brotherton and the Panther football team in the auxiliary gym. Addressing the team, he reflected on the lessons he learned at Parkway, both on and off the field, and how they prepared him for his career.

“When I was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, being with them these past four years has been a blessing. My whole journey has been a blessing. I thank God every day for where I’ve been and where I came from,” Mukuamu said.

He encouraged students to stay focused and work hard. “Going into college and high school, you’re going to have trials and tribulations. But if you know where you want to go in life—whether it’s being a lawyer, doctor, firefighter, football player, basketball player—you just have to understand that you have to work hard. You have to put in the work every day. You don’t have to overdo it, but you have to do more than your competition,” he added.

Mukuamu also made time to visit several of his former teachers, including surprising one of his favorites, Candace Impson. “I have not seen Israel since he graduated. I just love him. He’s just a great overall kid. I’m just so proud of him,” Impson said.

Mukuamu’s story of perseverance and determination is a testament to his character. After graduating from Parkway High in 2018, he excelled at the University of South Carolina, earning All-SEC honors in 2019. In 2021, he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys as the 227th overall pick in the sixth round.

Students and faculty across Bossier Schools celebrated Mukuamu’s visit, drawing inspiration from his achievements and his message of resilience. For many, the day was as uplifting as it was motivational, reminding them that big dreams are possible with hard work and the right mindset.

Mukuamu’s return to Bossier underscored the importance of community, gratitude, and giving back, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the opportunity to hear his story.
