High school girls basketball: Parkway, Haughton, Airline, Plain Dealing win

The Parkway Lady Panthers and Haughton Lady Bucs continued to set the pace in District 1-5A with victories Friday night,

Parkway defeated Benton 57-26 at Parkway, and Haughton downed Evangel Christian 40-10 at Haughton.

In the another 1-5A game, Huntington defeated Natchitoches Central 78-46.

In a non-district game, Airline defeated Calvary Baptist 64-36 at Airline.

Parkway (24-4, 6-0) leads the district. Haughton (25-4, 5-1) and Huntington (17-10, 5-1) are tied for second.

In a District 1-4A game, Bossier fell to Minden 52-45 at Bossier.

In a District 1-1A game, Plain Dealing defeated Jonesboro-Hodge 45-32 at Jonesboro-Hodge.

In a non-district game, Providence Classical Academy fell to Converse 52-49 at PCA.

At Parkway, Dakota Howard led eight Lady Panthers who scored with 16 points. Jasmyn Hendrix hit three 3-pointers and scored 11. Savannah Wilson chipped in eight points.

As has been the case most of the season, Parkway got off to a great start. Howard scored nine points in the first quarter and the Lady Panthers led 17-5. Howard was 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the quarter. Khia Thomas and Hendrix sank 3-pointers.

Benton played better in the second quarter. Each team scored eight and Parkway led 25-13 at the half.

Parkway dominated the third and led 42-19 going into the fourth.

Taylor Brown led Benton (19-12, 1-4) with eight points.

Parkway hosts Evangel Christian Tuesday. A victory gives the Lady Panthers at least a share of the district championship. Benton hosts Airline (17-6).

At Airline, Addison McDowell poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Vikings (17-6). Nia Williams (nine points) and Ke’Zyriah Sykes (eight) were among 11 Airline players who scored.

Lauren Waldron led Calvary Baptist (14-6) with 14 points. Caroline Bowman had 10.

At Bossier, the Lady Kats rallied from a 14-point deficit, getting within five a couple of times in the second half. But Minden held them off.

Zamarion Carter led Bossier with 18 points.

The Lady Kats trailed 32-20 at the half and 39-30 after three quarters. Adrianna Gooden and Tobiria Washington keyed a fourth-quarter charge. Gooden scored six of her eight points in the quarter. Washington scored all seven of hers.

Orianna Edwards chipped in eight points in the game.

Brooklyn Jefferson led Minden (13-11, 5-0) with 16 points. Travesti Byrd added 11.

Bossier (8-18, 1-4) visits Woodlawn Tuesday.

At Jonesboro-Hodge, Plain Dealing rallied from an 18-4 deficit. The Lady Tigers led 12-6 after the first quarter then scored the first six of the second.

The Lady Lions trailed 22-10 at the half. Plain Dealing got within two after three quarters then outscored Jonesboro-Hodge 18-3 in the fourth.

Jakayla Douglas scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half. Sanaa Lyles contributed to the rally in the third quarter, scoring all eight of her points.Janiya Douglas scored five of her six in the fourth.

Plain Dealing (13-13, 3-2) visits North Caddo Monday. Jonesboro-Hodge dropped to 11-16 and  2-3.

At PCA, the Lady Knights fell to 14-3. PCA closes its first season in the LHSAA Tuesday at home against North Webster.
