High school baseball: Haughton sweeps doubleheader against Sterlington; Benton gets tournament win

The Haughton Bucs and Benton Tigers picked up victories Saturday.

Haughton swept Sterlington 9-8 and 8-2 in a doubleheader at Haughton. The Bucs won the three-game series two games to one.

Benton defeated Catholic-Pointe Coupee 12-2 in five innings in the Northwood tournament.

Airline suffered two close losses in the Trey Altick Classic. The Vikings lost to Walker 7-2 in 13 innings and Neville 4-3.

Parkway also lost a close one to Loyola 4-3 in the Northwood tournament.

At Haughton, Christian Turner went 3-for-3 and had three stolen bases in the first game. Parker Presley went 2-for-2. Seth Jorstad had two RBI.

Justin Adkison got the win. He struck out five in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Presley went 3-for-3 in the second game. Maddox Williams went 2-for-4. JP Cormier had two RBI. Aubrey Ramsey got the win in three innings of relief. Russ Barrett didn’t allow a hit or walk in the final two innings.

The Bucs rallied from a 6-1 deficit after 3 1/2 innings. They tied it with five in the bottom of the fourth then added three more in the fifth.

Haughton (5-2) visits Loyola Tuesday at 5.

At Northwood, Benton’s Jackson Jones went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and six RBI against Catholic-Point Coupee 

Hayden Millen went 3-for-4 with a double. Kade Bryant went 2-for-4. Cole Snell had a triple.

Bryant struck out seven and walked one in four innings while allowing just two hits. Jones struck out two in the fifth.

Benton (8-0) hosts Cedar Creek Tuesday at 6. 

At Ouachita Christian, Walker scored five runs in the top of the 13th after the game went into extra innings tied at 2.

Eight Airline players combined for 10 hits. Ayden Hawn and Austin Smith had two each.

Airline starter Silas Endris went five innings. He allowed five hits. Drew Robinson gave up three hits, struck out three and walked one in five innings. 

At Neville, Airline tied the game at 3 with two runs in the top of the seventh but the Tigers won it in the bottom of the inning 

Bo Carter went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Hawn allowed two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits, struck out three and walked two.

Airline (3-4) hosts Ruston Tuesday at 6.
