College softball: Louisiana Tech falls to Ole Miss on final day of Rocket City Showcase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Louisiana Tech fell 8-3 to the Ole Miss Rebels in their fourth game of the Rocket City Showcase on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park on the campus of Alabama Huntsville. The Bulldogs finished the four-game event at 2-2 with wins over No. 17 Auburn and ETSU. LA Tech is now 7-7 on the season.

Elena Heng and Alannah Rogers led LA Tech with two hits each, while Alexis GilioClaire Raley and Allie Furr collected one hit apiece. Raley led the team with two RBI.

Allie Floyd made her seventh start of the season in the circle and took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking four.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Elena Heng reached base on a leadoff bloop single to left field. Heng advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by 60 more feet to third on a throwing error, and came around to score on a second wild pitch of the inning.

The Rebels answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, using a single to drive in two and double to score a third.

LA Tech scored two in the third to tie the game as Claire Raley hit a two-run home run that drove in Alannah Rogers who reached on a single.

Ole Miss tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-3 lead. The Rebels hit a three-run shot to center after a hit by pitch and double to put two runners on base. Ole Miss added a run in both the fifth and sixth inning to take the 8-3 lead.

NEXT UP

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday evening as Central Arkansas comes to Dr. Billy Bundrick Field for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
