High school baseball: Haughton completes sweep of Byrd; Parkway loses heartbreaker; Benton wins

The Haughton Bucs completed a two-game District 1-5A sweep of Byrd with a 9-1 victory Tuesday at Haughton.

In another 1-5A game, Parkway dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Captain Shreve at Parkway.

Elsewhere, Benton routed Quitman 17-0 in three innings at Benton.

At Haughton, the Bucs broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. They added three more in the sixth.

Christian Turner went 2-for-3 with a home run and triple, Landon Rolland had two RBI. Seth Jorstad and Troy Fielding both had one hit and walked twice.

Jorstad started on the mound and went 3 2/3 innings. Justin Adkison got the win in relief.

Haughton (12-3, 4-0) is scheduled to visit Calvary Baptist Thursday at 5. Byrd dropped to 4-12 and 0-4.

At Parkway, the Panthers led 2-0 after five innings. Shreve scored a run in the bottom of the sixth then won it with two in the seventh.

Parkway starter Zach Plunkett went six innings. He allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one.

The Panthers had seven hits. Colby Donaldson went 3-for-4 with a double.

Parkway (4-8, 0-2) is scheduled to start a two-game series against Benton Thursday at 6 at Benton. Captain Shreve (13-3, 4-0) visits Airline Thursday at 6 in the first game of their series.

At Benton, the Tigers improved to 16-1. Seventeen Benton players got in the game.

Case Jorden went 2-for-2 with a triple. Kade Bryant went 2-for-2 with a double. Cole Snell hit a three-run home run.

Kannon Greer had two RBI. Brandon McCarthy had a double. Thomas Allen got the win.
