High school baseball: Benton’s win over Parkway features outstanding pitching performances

In a game that featured two outstanding pitching performances, Benton defeated Parkway Monday at Benton.

The Tigers (18-1, 4-0) completed the two-game District 1-5A sweep.

Benton’s Kade Bryant pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. Parkway’s Abel Thetford allowed five hits, struck out eight and walked three.

Benton scored a run in the bottom of the first. Bryant and Cole Snell had back-to-back singles with one out. Griffin Sibley brought Bryant home with a two-out single.

The Tigers put one on the board in the second. Leadoff batter Rydon McCormack drew a walk. Brody Turnipseed and Kannon Greer had back-to-back singles. McCormack scored when Case Jorden was hit by a pitch.

Benton scored its final run in the bottom of the sixth. Leadoff batter Colton Birdsong drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on an error with two outs.

Benton begins a two-game series against Captain Shreve Tuesday at 6 at Shreve. Parkway (4-10, 0-4) begins a two-game series against Haughton Tuesday at 6 at Parkway.
