High school softball: Haughton gets two wins in Quitman tournament

The Haughton Lady Bucs defeated West Monroe 13-11 and Claiborne Christian 16-0 in the Quitman tournament Saturday.

Also in the Quitman tournament, Airline fell to Sterlington 4-2 and St. Frederick 5-3.

Haughton’s Clara Shaffer went 3-for-4 against West Monroe. Carsyn Kizzia hit two home runs and had four RBI.

Dixie Williams went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI. Brianna Benecke went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI. Presley Yerby hit a two-run home run.

The game was tied at 10 after six innings. The Lady Bucs scored three in the top of the seventh. Yerby and Kizzia had back-to-back home runs.

Kylie Small went 3-for-3 with a double against Claiborne Christian. Shaffer had a triple, double and two RBI. Charlee Prothro had a double. Kizzia, Williams and Benecke had two RBI apiece.

Prothro allowed one hit in three innings with six strikeouts.

Haughton (13-12) hosts Parkway Tuesday at 6.

Airline’s game against Sterlington went into extra innings tied at 2. The Lady Panthers scored two in the top of the eighth.

Madalynn Shortridge went 2-for-2. Kemora Guidry went 2-for-4 with a double. Taylor Smith had a triple.

Smith pitched 7 2/3 innings. She scattered six hits.

Seven Lady Vikings combined for eight hits against St. Frederick. Lindsey Marcinkus went 2-for-3 with a double. Emily Rachal allowed no hits, struck out three and walked none in 1 1/2 innings of relief. Starter Alena struck out five in 4 1/3 innings.

Airline (13-8) is scheduled to visit Evangel Christian Tuesday.
