First responders in Haughton now have new, state-of-the-art firefighting gear, thanks to funding secured through the 2024 State Appropriation Funds.
Mayor Hunter J. Timms and Fire Chief Jimmy Holland announced the arrival of the FireDex AeroFlex structural firefighting gear, which is designed to reduce heat stress—the leading cause of Line of Duty Deaths among firefighters nationwide. The protective equipment, purchased for $55,698, was made possible through a $75,000 allocation championed by Governor Jeff Landry, Senator Adam Bass, and Representative Dodie Horton.
The town of Haughton expressed its deep appreciation to these state leaders for their investment in local public safety. Special thanks were also extended to BFA of LA and Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese for their assistance in the procurement process.
The remaining funds from the state allocation are being used to purchase portable radios and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) solutions, both of which will further enhance emergency response capabilities in Haughton.
“The safety of our firefighters is our top priority,” said Chief Holland. “This new gear will help protect them in extreme conditions while ensuring they can continue to serve our community effectively.”
With these upgrades, Haughton’s first responders are better equipped to handle emergencies safely and efficiently, reinforcing the town’s commitment to firefighter well-being and public safety.
