High school baseball: Benton, Haughton, Airline, Parkway post non-district victories

Benton, Haughton, Airline and Parkway cruised to  non-district victories Friday.

Benton downed Jena 15-0 at Benton, Haughton defeated Caldwell Parish 12-2 at Haughton. Airline defeated Homer 20-0 at Airline and Parkway topped North Caddo 18-0 at Parkway.

Before the North Caddo game, the Panthers lost an 8-6 heartbreaker in 10 innings to Natchitoches Central in a makeup District 1-5A game.

At Benton, Hayden Millen went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and four RBI in the three-inning game. Cole Snell went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBI.

Jackson Jones went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Bryson Gate’s struck out five.

Benton (30-3) hosts Natchitoches Central (25-6)  in its final District 1-5A game Saturday at 1.

At Haughton, Seth Breen went 3-for-4 in the six-inning game. Christian Turner had a home run, double and three RBI. 

Drake Cooper and Landon Rolland both went 2-for-3. Troy Fielding had two RBI.

Trent McGowen allowed just one hit with no walks in four innings of relief.

Haughton (26-6) hosts Airline (18-13) in both teams’ 1-5A finale Saturday at 1.

At Airline, Leo Heng went 2-for-3 with a double and five RBI in the three-inning game. Bo Carter went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Jack Henry Smith went 2-for-3 with a double.

Marshall Beaver and Ayden Hawn had two RBI each. Brock Jordan had a double.

Beaver and Drake Bellew pitched one inning each. They didn’t allow a hit.

At Parkway, 13 Panthers combined for 16 hits against North Caddo. Abel Thetford, Tristan Sedberry and Dallas Loche had two apiece. Clay Edmonson had a double and two RBI. Gabe Armond had a triple and three RBI.

Sedberry, Loche and Dakota Armour had two RBI apiece. Ryan Waits allowed two hits and struck out five.

Parkway trailed Natchitoches Central 5-0 after five innings. The Panthers scored two in the bottom of the sixth. After the Chiefs scored one in the top of the seventh, Parkway sent the game into extra innings with four in the bottom of the frame.

Natchitoches Central took the lead with four consecutive singles in the top of the 10th.

Thetford went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Maddox Cockerham had two hits and three RBI. Armour had a double.

Natchitoches Central’s Andrew Odom had three hits.

Parkway (12-16, 6-9) closes its season Monday at Alexandria. Six of the Panthers’ losses were by two runs or less.
