High school baseball: Airline’s season ends with Game Two loss to Dutchtown

The Airline Vikings’ season came to an end Saturday with a 6-2 loss to No. 10 seed Dutchtown in Game Two of their non-select Division I first-round playoff series in Geismar.

Airline finished 20-16. Dutchtown improved to 25-11.

Airline’s loss leaves No. 4 seed Haughton and No. 5 Benton as the only two parish teams left in the playoffs.

Haughton (28-6) hosts No. 20 Sulphur (18-18) in the second round. The Tors swept No. 13 Covington 4-2 and 7-5 in the first round.

Benton (31-3) hosts No. 12 Ruston (25-11). The Bearcats swept No. 21 Hahnville 13-3 and 7-6 in eight innings.

Airline, the designated home team, trailed 3-0 after four innings then fought back to within one with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. But the Griffins answered with one in the sixth then added two more in the seventh.

The Vikings got four hits off Caden Hill, who pitched a complete game. He struck out four with no walks.

Brock Jordan, Marshall Beaver, Max Fisher and Silas Endris had singles. Ayden Hawn had an RBI.

Airline starter Jack Henry Smith went five innings. He allowed three hits, struck out six and walked three. Drew Robinson pitched the final two innings. He allowed two hits and one earned run.
