High school swimming: Parish athletes fare well in Red River Championship meet

Athletes from Bossier Parish schools fared well in the Red River High School Championship meet which concluded Saturday in Ruston.

Parkway sophomore Tori Impson won the girls 500 freestyle and finished second in the 200 free.

Her time in the 500 was 5 minutes, 26.5 seconds. Byrd’s June Furlong was second in 5:46.93.

Impson swam the 200 in 2:04.81. Byrd’s Macy Monday won in 1:56.53.

Airline junior Tyler Bartels won the boys 50 freestyle and finished second in the 100 breaststroke.

Bartels swam the 50 in 23.39. Byrd’s Isaac Andrews was second in 24.03.

Bartel’s time in the 100 was 1:06.94. Ruston’s Maddox Hamby won in 1:05.66.

Haughton’s Kaigan Veitch finished second in the girls 100 free and fourth in the 50 free.

Veitch swam the 100 in 1:03.76. Choudrant’s Julie Groce won in 1:03.20.

She swam the 50 in 28.47. Ruston’s Bre Senn won in 26.36.

Benton’s Kenneth Sterling finished third in the boys 500 free in 5:58.38. Calvary Baptist’s Sam Ponder won in 5:05.73.

Other parish swimmer in the top six in individual events were Haughton’s Kali Grace (fifth, girls 100 fly), Parkway’s Hunter Hayden (fifth, boys 100 fly), Parkway’s Aleigha Brandes (sixth, girls 100 free), Providence Classical Academy’s Sara Kovalcik (sixth, girls 200 IM) and Haughton’s Noah Lackie (sixth, boys 50 free).

Haughton finished third in the boys 200 free relay and fourth in the 400 free.

Haughton finished fifth in the girls 200 medley and 400 free relays and sixth in the 200 free.

Haughton was fifth in the boys and girls team competition.

The LHSAA State Meet is Nov. 19-21 in Sulphur
