High school girls basketball: Airline, Parkway get key district wins

The Airline Lady Vikings and Parkway Lady Panthers won key District 1-5A games Thursday night.

Airline knocked off Captain Shreve 72-63 at Shreve, and Parkway eased past Natchitoches Central 48-45 at Parkway.

At one point this season, Airline was 4-9. The Lady Vikings are now 10-9 after knocking off one of the district favorites.

Airline currently sits atop the district standings at 3-0. Parkway (15-6, 2-0), which has won eight straight, is a half-game back.

Haughton (19-6, 1-0) can move into a tie with Parkway with a victory over Byrd Friday.

Captain Shreve dropped to 14-9 and 2-1. Huntington’s game against Evangel Friday was postponed. The Lady Raiders are 12-6 and 1-1.

Natchitoches Central is 15-7 and 1-2.

At Parkway, Kenadie Loche led the Lady Panthers with 15 points. She also took two big charges in the second half.

Jasmyne Hendrix and Samahiri Garrette both scored 10. Hendrix was injured in the third quarter but came back in and gave the team a spark.

Addison McDowell and Ke’Zyriah Sykes led Airline against Captain Shreve with 24 and 22 points, respectively. Karliyah Woodard added 10.

The Lady Vikings hit eight 3-pointers. McDowell had four. Nia Williams had two. Sykes and Woodard hit one apiece. Sykes also made 9-of-15 free throws.

Elsewhere, Bossier fell to Booker T. Washington 62-51 in a District 1-4A opener at Bossier.

The Lady Kats dropped to 7-9. BTW improved to 12-9.

Providence Classical Academy (17-12) fell to Cedar Creek 52-33 at PCA.

EllaGrace Richardson and Lauren Hillman scored 10 each. Adilynn DeLoach added nine.
