High school baseball: Airline gets first win

The Airline Vikings picked up their first win of the season Thursday, defeating Glenmora 6-3 at McMurray Park in the Sulphur tournament.

Elsewhere, Haughton fell to Ruston 5-3 in the first of a three-game series at Ruston.

At McMurray Park, Airline scored five runs in the second inning. The Vikings added one in the fourth.

Leo Heng went 2-for-3 with a double. Jack Henry Smith went 2-for-4 with a double. Austin Smith had two RBI. Jack Henry Smith, Heng, Brock Jordan, Bo Carter and Ayden Hawn all had one.

Silas Endris got the win. He allowed one earned run and three hits with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings. Sam Fisher got the final two outs for the save.

Airline (1-1) is scheduled to play two games in the tournament Friday against Sam Houston at 4 p.m. and Sulphur at 7.

At Ruston, Haughton led 2-1 through three innings. Ruston took the lead with two in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bucs tied with one in the fifth but the Bearcats answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Haughton had seven hits to Ruston’s five.

Maddox Williams went 3-for-3 with a double. Russ Barrett went 2-for-3 with a triple. Landon Rolland had a double.

Haughton (1-2) and Ruston (2-0) are scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday at 4 at Haughton.
