High school softball: Four parish teams notch victories

The Airline Lady Vikings, Haughton Lady Bucs, Plain Dealing Lady Lions and Providence Classical Academy Lady Knights picked up wins Thursday.

Airline defeated Minden 7-0 at Minden, Haughton defeated Cedar Creek 8-5 in Ruston, Plain Dealing defeated Lincoln Prep 20-10 at Plain Dealing and PCA defeated Southwood 20-5 in its season opener at Southwood.

Elsewhere, Parkway dropped a heartbreaker 11-10 to Caddo Magnet at Parkway,

At Minden, Taylor Smith had 15 strikeouts. She allowed four hits and walked two.

Haley Whiteside went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in the Lady Vikings’ four-run first inning. Ainsley Jones went 2-for-3. Smith had an RBI-triple.

Airline (3-2) is scheduled to play in the Glenbrook tournament next.

At Cedar Creek, Haughton had 10 hits. Avery Hedrick went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI. Presley Yerby went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Avery Smith and Skylar Hogan had two doubles each. Charlee Prothro had two hits, including a double. Ella Turner had a double.

Prothro struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Haughton (4-2) plays St. Mary’s at 11 and Stanley at 5 Saturday in the Stanley tournament. Cedar Creek dropped to 0-2.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers scored five in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-8 lead. But Caddo Magnet answered with three in the top of the seventh.

Izzy Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Madison Menard went 3-for-5.

Zoey Horn went 2-for-4 with a double. Macee Thompson and Addison McCall had two hits, including doubles, each. Maci Paul had a double.

Parkway (3-3) is scheduled to play in the Glenbrook tournament Friday and Saturday. Caddo Magnet improved to 3-3 with its third straight win.

At Plain Dealing, the Lady Lions (4-0) took advantage of 16 walks Jakayla Douglas went 2-for-2 with a double. Zakira Lewis had a double. Ryelin West had two RBI.

Sophie Green didn’t allow a hit and struck out three in two innings.

It was Lincoln Prep’s season opener.

At PCA, the Lady Knights took advantage of nine walks, six hits and four hit-by-pitches in the three-inning game.

Ireland Baker had six RBI. Molly McGinty had two. Harper Milner went 2-for-2 and scored four runs. Paige Cheney and Ainsley Allison drew two walks each. Allison allowed three hits and struck out four.

PCA visits Weston Friday at 4. Southwood dropped to 0-5.
