The Haughton Bucs gave head coach Glenn Maynor his 700th career win Friday night.
Maynor’s Bucs defeated Byrd 16-6 in five innings in the first of a two-game District 1-5A series at Haughton. Maynor, Cadd-Bossier’s all-time wins leader, is in his 32nd season, all at Haughton.
Elsewhere, Airline defeated Huntington 20-0 in a District 1-5A game at Airline. Plain Dealing defeated Doyline 7-5 at Doyline in a non-district game.
At Haughton, the Bucs trailed 4-3 after three innings. They took the lead with eight in the bottom of the fourth then ended the game with five in the fifth.
Five pitchers combined to limit the Yellow Jackets to four hits. Brody Beach got the win.
The Bucs had two hits in the eight-run fourth, an RBI-single by Maddox Williams and a bases-loaded double by Mason Anderson. Haughton took advantage of five walks, two errors and a wild pitch.
Williams went 3-for-4 with a double. Anderson went 2-for-3 with a triple, the double and three RBI.
Troy Fielding went 2-for-2 with two doubles and four RBI. He also drew two walks. Carson Plant went 2-for-3.
Haughton (10-4, 1-2) and Byrd (3-11, 0-3) are scheduled to complete the series Tuesday at Byrd’s field at LSUS at 6.
At Airline, the Vikings took advantage of seven walks, six hit-by-pitches and numerous errors in the three-inning game. Jack Henry Smith, Austin Smith and Ayden Hawn had two RBI apiece.
Leo Heng and Crew Chandler pitched one inning each. They both struck out two.
Airline (7-9, 2-1) is scheduled to begin a two-game district series at Captain Shreve Thursday at 6.
At Doyline, Plain Dealing improved to 3-7. Doyline fell to 4-6.
