High school softball: Airline, Benton win tournament games

The Airline Lady Vikings and Benton Lady Tigers picked up victories in tournaments Friday.

Airline defeated Iowa 5-0 in the Sulphur tournament, and Benton downed St. Mary’s 5-0 in the Calvary Baptist tournament.

Haughton fell to Rosepine 7-5 in the Sulphur tournament.

At the Sulphur tournament, Airline’s Taylor Smith struck out 14 and walked one. She allowed four hits.

Ainsley Hollis led off the third with a home run to give the Lady Vikings the 5-0 lead. 

Airline scored four in the second. Ainsley Jones hit a two-RBI single with two outs. Mauriana Holcomb had a single earlier in the inning. Airline also capitalized on some errors.

Airline (9-5) completes play in the tournament Saturday against St. Charles Catholic at 9 a.m. and Sulphur at 11. Iowa dropped to 7-8.

Haughton’s Skylar Hogan went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Reese Mayfield had a double.

Haughton (9-10) completes play in the tournament Saturday against Teurlings Catholic at 1 p.m. and St. Louis Catholic at 5. Rosepine improved to 11-6.

At the Calvary Baptist tournament, Bayleigh Moniz struck out 10 and walked one. She gave up four hits. Moniz also hit a solo home run.

Lainey Lafitte went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI. Audrey Stark had a double.

Benton improved to 9-12. St. Mary’s dropped to 12-7.
