Parkway’s Brennan Robin took another step toward adding to his already impressive resume in the Region I-5A meet Thursday at Northwestern State.
Robin swept the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. His time in the 1,600 was 4 minutes, 13.32 seconds. He ran a 9:12.59 in the 3,200.
Robin won both events in the Division I state indoor meet in February. Last year, he finished third in the 1,600 and second in the 3,200 in the outdoor meet.
Robin’s teammate Ben Ruliffson was second in the 3,200 Thursday in 9:22.36. Ruston’s Joshua Dalton was second in the 1,600 in 4:30.12. Benton’s Brody Hutchison was third in 4:32.81.
The top three finishers in each individual event and relay qualified for the Class 5A state meet Saturday, May 9, at LSU. Fourth-place finishers serve as alternates in case a qualifier is unable to compete.
Benton’s Caden Austin and Jordan Johnson were the only other winners from a parish school in an individual event in the boys division
Austin won the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, 6 inches. Sam Houston’s Rowdy Partin was second with an 11-6.
Johnson and Haughton’s Kyron Turner both cleared 6-4 in the high jump. Johnson won on fewer misses.
Airline’s Shelby Ledet was the only winner and state meet qualifier from a parish school in the girls division. She and Barbe’s Taylor Bennett both cleared 5-4 in the high jump. Ledet was first on fewer misses.
The Parkway foursome of Aiden O’Nishea, Ruliffson, Braxton Thomas and Javaria Flournoy won the boys 4X800 relay in 8:06.97. Barbe was second in 8:09.57.
Airline’s Jayden Williams was second in the 800 in 1:53.01. West Monroe’s Tytan Johnson won in 1:52.33.
Airline’s Preston Hughes finished second in the 110 hurdles in 14.82. New Iberia’s Conner Stewart won in 14.67.
Benton’s Malachi Zeigler took second in the javelin with a 182-9. West Monroe’s Jaxon Talley won with a massive throw of 222-10.25.
Benton’s Ryder Dodson finished second in the discus with a 163-10. Alexandria’s Joseph Carter Rivet won with a 198-0.
Airline’s Lathan Woodland was third in the 400 in 49.17. Byrd’s Wyatt Ditt won in 48.79.
The Airline foursome of Jayden Williams, Woodland, Jayden Singleton and Jordan Williams finished third in the 4X400 relay in 3:24.55. West Monroe won in 3:20.42.
Airline’s Terrence Hayes came very close to qualifying for the state meet in the long jump. He and Car’Darrian Devers both had the third-best distance of 21-2. But Devers’ second-best was 21-0.5 and Hayes’ was 20-10.25.
Benton’s Ryleigh McCoy came very close to qualifying in the girls pole vault. She and two competitors cleared 10-0. Those two placed second and third based on fewer misses.
Lafayette’s Scarlett Pettigrew won with a 10-6.
Benton’s Claire Allen finished fourth in the girls 3,200 in 11:58.47. Third-place finisher Addison Aucoin of Lafayette ran an 11:53.75. Byrd’s Emmy Banker won in 11:32.98.
Parkway’s Flournoy finished fourth in the boys 800 in 1:58.73, just .16 behind third-place finisher Christopher Anderson of Huntington.
Parkway’s Alijah Burnside was fourth in the boys pole vault with a 10-0, one foot less than the third-place finisher.
The Parkway foursome of Alaina Stoute, Khaliyla Harris, Sofia Bright and Caylee Weaver finished fourth in the girls 4X800 relay in 10:28.04. Alexandria was third in 10:04.80.
Parkway finished tied for fifth in the boys team standings with 46 points. Benton was seventh with 44 and Airline eighth with 37. Alexandria won with 60 and Barbe was second with 52.
Alexandria won the girls meet with 121 points. Lafayette was second with 99.
