Bossier City Parks and Recreation has received a 2026-2027 Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB)Beautification Grant to help make Bossier City greener, more welcoming, and more beautiful through new planting projects focused on improving appearance by creating a beautiful, well-maintained public space.
The $10,000 grant will support beautification and enhancement of the entrance to the Bossier Sports Complex at Tinsley Park, one of the most heavily visited recreational facilities in Bossier City. The project will create a welcoming gateway that promotes community pride, improves aesthetics, and encourages stewardship of public spaces transforming Bossier City into an attractive space residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come. The project is one of 21 beautification initiatives selected across Louisiana this year.
“This grant award represents an active partnership with KLB that will help us uphold our responsibility to do the right thing for our environment and community,” said Mayor Tommy Chandler, Mayor of Bossier City. “This grant gives us the opportunity to improve the appearance of a highly visible entry point used by thousands of athletes, families, and visitors annually while creating a lasting, attractive first impression of our community. Projects like this not only enhance the appearance of our community but also bring people together and create a stronger sense of pride in where we live.”
Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser said projects like these help strengthen communities by creating places that people are proud to call home.
“When people take pride in where they live, it shows. These projects help create cleaner, more beautiful communities that improve quality of life, encourage civic pride, and leave a great first impression on everyone who visits,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “I’m proud to support organizations making a real difference in communities across Louisiana.”
Keep Louisiana Beautiful Executive Director Susan Russell said beautification projects also play an important role in reducing litter.
“People are less likely to litter in areas that display community pride and that are well maintained and beautiful, so reducing litter in highly visible areas is an additional key driver of this grant,” said Russell. “KLB seeks projects that have diverse community support, volunteer involvement, collaboration with stakeholders and benefit the community at large.”
Made possible through funding from the State of Louisiana and the Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, the Beautification Grant Program awarded 21 grants totaling more than $178,232 to eligible Louisiana parishes and municipalities during the 2026-2027 grant cycle.
Bossier City Parks and Recreation will use its grant to beautify and enhance the entrance to the Bossier Sports Complex at Tinsley Park. The project will include a new Bossier Sports Complex welcome sign, sports-themed decorative bollards, native Louisiana trees, and turf landscaping. Approximately 4 native shade trees will be planted around the entrance feature. Artificial turf will be installed around the sign area to create a clean, year-round appearance, help the monument sign stand out, and reinforce the sports-themed identity of the complex.
The KLB Beautification Grant Program supports projects that improve highly visible public spaces, including community entrances, highway corridors and medians, downtown streetscapes, parks, and other gathering places. By creating attractive, well-maintained spaces, these projects help foster community pride, discourage litter, and make Louisiana communities more inviting.
