Hand Construction is proud to partner with Shriners Children’s Shreveport on the construction of its new two-story, 43,000-square-foot facility at the corner of Kings Highway and Samford Avenue, directly across from the organization’s current building. Designed by GFP Somdal, LLC, the new facility is purpose-built around Shriners Children’s outpatient model of care and is expected to open in spring 2028.
The project brings a wide range of specialized spaces together under one roof: 19 clinic rooms, a state-of-the-art motion analysis suite, two radiology suites with low-dose imaging technology, casting rooms, laboratory services, and a dedicated sports medicine gym for return-to-sport and injury recovery. The building will also house physical, occupational, and speech therapy, an expanded Pediatric Orthotics and Prosthetic Services (POPS) space where custom devices are built on site, and an outdoor play area for patients and families.
“Shriners Children’s has cared for kids in Shreveport for more than a hundred years, and it’s an honor for our team to help build the next chapter of that story right here at home,” said Kyle Hand, Vice President of Hand Construction. “A building like this has a lot of highly specialized spaces working together, from the imaging suites to the motion analysis lab to the orthotics and prosthetics shop. Our job is to make sure every one of them is built right, so the care teams can focus on the children and families who walk through the doors.”
The new facility will have a lasting impact on the region. Shriners Children’s Shreveport sees nearly 17,000 clinic visits each year for specialized orthopedic, cleft lip and palate, and sports medicine care, and provides more than 800 surgeries annually through arrangements with local medical facilities. The new building is designed to accommodate continued growth in the number of children served.
“We expect the number of children we serve to continue growing, and this facility is being designed with that future in mind,” said Shriners Children’s Shreveport Administrator Susan Bryant. “It will allow us to provide the same specialized care families have relied on for generations in a more efficient, family-centered environment built specifically around how we deliver care today.”
