Holy Angels celebrated its 45th annual TASTE: A Festival of Food and Art Thursday, Sept. 24, bringing together residents, families, restaurants and community supporters from across the Shreveport-Bossier area.
The annual event was held at the Shreveport Convention Center and featured food, art, music and entertainment while raising funds for Holy Angels and its mission of empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Residents from both Shreveport and Bossier were represented at the event, highlighting the organization’s reach throughout the community.
TASTE has become a longtime Shreveport tradition, attracting more than 1,500 guests each year. The event featured food from 40 area restaurants and vendors, including several businesses from Bossier City.
Among the Bossier restaurants and businesses participating were Chicken Salad Chick, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Chocolate Crocodile.
Guests were able to sample a variety of food while also enjoying Holy Angels’ famous lasagna and other catering specialties. Howdy Homemade gourmet ice cream was also available.
The evening included complimentary beer, wine and champagne from Champagne Charlie’s Bubble Bar, along with live entertainment by Windstorm.
Members of the Holy Angels community also took part in special performances, including the Holy Angels Choir and talent show winners.
The event featured a silent auction with more than 200 items donated through AngelWorks and community supporters.
Auction offerings included original artwork created by Holy Angels residents, pieces from local artists, jewelry, gifts, experiences and trips. Guests had the opportunity to view the artwork and meet some of the resident artists who created the pieces.
Since its first event in September 1981, TASTE has grown into an annual gathering that celebrates the talents and accomplishments of the individuals served by Holy Angels while raising funds to support the organization’s programs.
Holy Angels provides individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities opportunities for education, empowerment, spirituality, independence and employment.
The organization provides services that include job training and placement, day program activities, outpatient therapy and education, and residential care.
Holy Angels provides 24-hour supportive care and individualized service plans for 185 residents.
The organization has also expanded its services through Holy Angels Academy, which serves children ages 2 through 21. The academy provides year-round support designed to address students’ academic, clinical and personal needs through an integrated model of care.
TASTE gives restaurants, artists, businesses, families and community members an opportunity to support Holy Angels while celebrating the abilities and accomplishments of the individuals the organization serves.
For the Shreveport-Bossier community, the annual event also provided an opportunity to come together across the river in support of a shared mission.
Funds raised through TASTE help Holy Angels continue providing services, opportunities and support to individuals and families throughout the region.
