High school cross country: Benton boys, girls finish runner-up in Ruston meet

Benton finished runner-up in the boys and girls divisions in the Ruston High Invitational meet Saturday.

Benton scored 59 points in the boys division. Ruston won with 36. West Ouachita was third with 85. Airline was sixth with 177. Fifteen teams posted scored.

Benton and Loyola both scored 69 points in the girls division. Ruston won with 25. Twelve teams posted scores.

Benton’s Samuel Ivins finished second in the boys race. He covered the 3-mile course at the Gospel park in Choudrant in 15 minutes, 56.66 seconds. Ruston’s Wyatt Hancock won in 15:43.13. Parkers Chapel’s (Arkansas) Andrew Day was third in 15:57.41.

Benton’s Carlos Rubalcava and Dalton Bliss finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in 16:08.04 and 16:14.46.

Airline’s John Austin Bonney was 10th in 16:19.79.

Other Benton runners in the scoring were Cayden Clark (27th) and David Montavlo.(34th). Brice Warner was 38th.

The boys race featured 137 competitors.

Benton’s Aaliyah Gonzalez finished second in the girls race in 18:53.13. Ruston’s Eden Dawsey won in 18:39.68. Her teammate Madison Morris was third in 19:13.78.

Benton’s Avery DeVita finished fourth in 19:18.36. Other Benton runners in the scoring were Ellie Allen (15th), Maddox Cisneros (19th) and Layla Gamache (39th).

The girls race featured 117 competitors.
