The Salvation Army Kicks Off Christmas with Red Kettle Campaign Community invited to celebrate the Red Kettle Kick-Off
Shreveport, LA [11/2/2026] – The Salvation Army invites the community to its annual holiday celebration, which launches its largest and most recognized fundraiser, the Christmas Red Kettle Campaign. On November 5th, 2026, The Salvation Army will open this season’s campaign with the first ringing of its iconic red bell, a symbol of the hope and generosity at the heart of its mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The public is invited to join the celebration inside Pierre Bossier Mall (in front of Dillard’s), 2950 E Texas St., Bossier City, LA 71111, starting at 10:00 AM.
We will be joined by the Mayor(s), officials, school superintendent(s), Bossier Chamber (for a ribbon-cutting), Shreveport Chamber, other amazing community partners, news stations, and the Airline Marching Band and Cheerleaders!
“We are excited to ring in the holiday season with this event,” said Captain Jason McMullin, Corps Officer with the Salvation Army of NWLA. “The Salvation Army provides many services and programs to those in need right here in Northwest Louisiana. When you give to a Red Kettle, you are helping your neighbors, because those donations stay local.”
Last year, The Salvation Army provided more than 134,288 meals to people facing hunger, 27,816 nights of shelter to neighbors facing sudden homelessness, and help for over 500 families to stay in their homes. With families still struggling with high food, utility, and housing costs, the organization is expecting an increase in requests for assistance.
“Many families are still in need,” said Captain Jason McMullin. “Our fundraising goal is close to $400,000, and we need this to meet the increased need this holiday season and beyond.”
The event will also highlight convenient ways to give. Every Red Kettle now features a QR code, so shoppers can donate quickly and securely with their phones. Kettles also accept credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo.
“For those who prefer to give online, please visit NWLAkettle.org,” said Captain Jason McMullin.
Red Kettle donations help fund the Angel Tree Program, which provides gifts and clothing to children, seniors, and families who would otherwise go without. Last year, The Salvation Army provided toys and essentials to more than 1,648 children and families.
“Many Christmas Angels still need to be adopted,” said Captain Keisha McMullin. “Red Kettle donations help ensure every child can experience the joy and miracle of Christmas.”
