The defending champion Bossier Phillies rolled into the winners’ bracket finals of the American Legion Baseball State Tournament with a 10-1 victory over the Crowley Millers Sunday in New Orleans.
The Phillies face the Houma-based Southland Hogs Monday at 7 p.m. in Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Southland defeated Jesuit-based Retif Oil 7-0 in the other winners’ bracket semifinal.
After a scoreless first inning, Bossier scored four runs in the top of the second. The Phillies tacked on three in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Former Natchitoches Central star Brock Laird went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Starting pitcher Easton Sanders, a former Glenbrook standout, had a bases-loaded double in the second.
Former Benton star Hudson Brignac, a sophomore-to-be at Northwestern State, had a two-RBI single to make it 9-1 in the fifth.
Benton rising senior Cole Snell had a hit and an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Also getting hits were Benton rising senior Case Jorden, former Benton standout Griffin Sibley and Texas High rising senior Kam Wrightner.
Sanders allowed four hits, struck out five and walked one in 3 2/3 innings. Former Benton standout Jax Prewitt allowed two hits, struck out three and walked none in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
