The Bossier Phillies rallied for an 11-4 victory over the Houma-based Southland Hogs-Red in the American Legion Baseball State Tournament Monday night in New Orleans.
At 3-0, Bossier is the only team in the tournament without a loss.
The Phillies play the Jesuit-based Retif Oilers Tuesday at 7 p.m. Retif’s lone loss was to Southland 7-0 Sunday. The Oilers defeated the St. Landry Indians 6-2 in an elimination game Monday.
Southland and Crowley, the other two teams left in the tournament, face off in an elimination game at 4.
Bossier trailed 3-1 through four innings. The Phillies finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth.
Leadoff batter Griffin Sibley drew a walk. Case Jorden followed with a single. Kam Wrightner’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base.
Cole Snell drove in Sibley with a single to right field. Jorden scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3.
Hudson Brignac drew a walk, putting runners at first and second. Snell stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Easton Sanders.
Brignac stole second and Abel Thetford drew a walk. Brock Laird’s single brought home Brignac for the final run of the inning and the Phillies led 5-3.
Bossier then added six more runs in the sixth.
Former Benton star Thomas Allen, a first-team Class 5A All-State selection last season, got off to a bit of a shaky start, giving up five hits in the first three innings.
But the ULM signee didn’t allow another hit until the seventh. After the Hogs loaded the bases in the inning with two outs, Abel Thetford came on in relief.
After walking the first batter, the former Parkway standout, ended the game with a strikeout.
Allen struck out five and walked three.
Benton rising senior Snell, also a first-team All-State selection, went 4-for-4 with a double.
Jorden, a rising senior at Benton, went 2-for-3 with a double.
Brignac, a former Benton star who will be a sophomore at Northwestern State, went 1-for-2 and walked twice.
Former Glenbrook standout Sanders had two RBI. Thetford and former Benton standout Jackson Jones had one RBI each.
