Friends, family, colleagues, and local officials gathered at the Bossier Parish Courthouse on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, to celebrate the retirement of longtime public servant Butch Ford. The event, held in the packed police jury meeting room, highlighted Ford’s significant contributions to the Bossier Parish community during his distinguished career.
Ford, who began serving as parish engineer in 2003, played a key role in guiding Bossier Parish through a period of unprecedented growth, helping it become the fifth-fastest-growing parish in Louisiana. His expertise and leadership were critical in managing the infrastructure challenges that came with rapid expansion.
In December 2021, he was appointed parish administrator following the retirement of longtime administrator Bill Altimus. As parish administrator, Ford continued to lead efforts to enhance the parish’s infrastructure and economic development.
Speakers at the ceremony expressed deep gratitude for Ford’s decades of service. Many shared stories and personal memories, emphasizing the lasting impact of his work.
Ford took the opportunity to acknowledge those who supported him throughout his career, including Bossier Parish Attorney Patrick Jackson, whom he named as a key figure in the parish’s progress. Referring to his predecessor, Bill Altimus, Ford said: “Bill is the best. He trained me well. But the person that keeps this parish going is my friend Patrick Jackson. Whenever you have a problem, he knows how to solve it. He’s always correct. He’s always supportive. Patrick, we have been through so much. It’s been a great ride. And we didn’t do it without the help of everyone in this room.”
The event was filled with anecdotes, laughter, and applause as attendees celebrated Ford’s achievements and wished him well in his retirement.
As Ford steps down, Assistant Administrator Ken Ward will take over as parish administrator.
Butch Ford leaves behind a legacy of growth and resilience for Bossier Parish, with his contributions set to benefit the community for years to come. The heartfelt send-off reflected not only the respect he earned but also the enduring mark he made on the parish he served so faithfully.
