Bossier Parish is on the brink of significant growth as the Police Jury voted during its Wednesday, February 5th Regular Agenda Meeting to schedule public hearings for multiple development proposals. The proposed zoning changes would convert nearly 400 acres of agricultural land into residential and business districts, potentially bringing hundreds of new homes and commercial developments to the parish.

One of the largest projects under consideration would transform more than 125 acres in north Bossier into a residential subdivision with over 400 new homes. Another major proposal includes plans for an automobile and truck travel center, along with future commercial development, in the Haughton area.

Jury President Doug Benton expressed enthusiasm about the parish’s continued expansion. “This is outstanding, and this is a great problem to solve,” Benton said, highlighting the community’s strong schools, churches, and overall growth-friendly environment. While he acknowledged ongoing concerns about traffic congestion, Benton assured residents that solutions are being developed to accommodate the parish’s future growth.

In addition to discussions on development, the Jury also voted to appoint District 12 Juror Keith Sutton to the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission Advisory Board. Sutton will fill the unexpired term of the late Bob Brotherton, which runs through December 31, 2028.

Sutton expressed his gratitude for the appointment, recognizing Brotherton’s contributions to local sports. “I have some big shoes to fill, and I am honored to be selected to serve on the advisory board,” he said. With a deep passion for sports, Sutton hopes to build on Brotherton’s legacy and attract more sporting events to northwest Louisiana.

As Bossier Parish prepares for these potential changes, public hearings will provide residents with the opportunity to voice their opinions before final decisions are made. The proposed developments could significantly impact the region’s residential landscape and economic growth in the coming years.
