The Bossier Parish Jamboree is set for Saturday at Benton.
Action gets underway at 10 a.m. in the main and auxiliary gyms. Benton, Haughton, Airline, Parkway and Bossier are competing.
The regular season starts next week.
In the only opener Monday, Parkway travels to Natchitoches to play St. Mary’s.
In Tuesday’s openers, Airline hosts Natchitoches Central, Benton hosts Calvary Baptist, Haughton hosts North Caddo, Parkway hosts Ruston and Providence Classical Academy visits Northwood.
Benton is coming off a 25-8 season. The Lady Tigers finished runner-up to Byrd in District 1-I at 5-1.
First-team All-District middle blocker Madison Smith and utility Devyn Mpore return. Moore is an outside hitter and defensive specialist. Also back are second-team outside hitter Brynan Huffman and utility Emma Holmes, a libero and defensive specialist.
Middle hitter Tenley Hesson was named the district’s Freshman of the Year last season.
Benton has made the playoffs three years in a row. The Lady Tigers won a playoff game for the first time in school history last season before falling in the second round.
Parkway returns first-team All-District Keely Conway, a libero and defensive specialist., off last year’s 19-9 team which finished third in the district. The Lady Panthers made the playoffs for the first time in school history.
Two Airline players — outside hitter Emma Byrd and middle blocker Adison Willis — msde second-team All-District last season. The Lady Vikings finished 11-22 overall and 3-3 in district.
Haughton graduated 11 seniors, including nine who started at some point, off last season’s 11-14 team.
Outside hitter Bella Van and setter/right side hitter Mikaela Poole saw action last season.
Head Coach Justin Ginn expects contributions this season from setter/right side hitter/outside hitter Ava Dickey, middle blocker Tavyanna Norwood, libero/defensive specialist Brianna Benecke, libero/defensive specialist Nichole Gallegos and outside hitter Hannah Strange this season.
With the return of Natchitoches Central, District 1-I has seven teams. The Lady Chiefs went 32-4 last season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs.
Byrd is coming off a 33-9 season. The Lady Jackets were 6-0 in district
Captain Shreve was 12-25 and 1-5 last season and Huntington was 0-19 and 0-6.
Providence Classical Academy is entering its third season as a member of the LHSAA. The Lady Knights are eligible for district and state honors.
PCA, which went 5-10 last season, is in District 1-V with Lincoln Prep, St. Mary’s, Downsville and Doyline.
