Members of the Bossier Retired Teachers Association got a history lesson recently when Bossier Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland took them on a guided tour of the 1937 Benton High gym, located behind the Bossier Parish School Board Central Office in Benton.

Rather than building new construction, history was preserved in 2024 by repurposing the former gymnasium that had fallen into disrepair and centralizing several departments under one roof. Rowland proudly pointed out relics from the past that remain today, including the scoreboard and clock that was refurbished, as well as original painted signage above the “Tigerettes Den” that was once the girls’ dressing room.

BRTA members praised the modernized workspace that retained nods to the past while providing much-needed room for the BPSB Insurance, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Child Nutrition and Purchasing departments.
