Bossier Parish Community College is proud to announce the launch of EMPWR LA, a new full-service pre-employment training program designed to rapidly prepare individuals for entry-level roles in high-demand, high-wage fields in manufacturing, distribution, and skilled trades. Through focused, short-term training, EMPWR LA equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and nationally recognized certifications needed to enter the workforce and meet the evolving needs of employers across Louisiana and beyond.

The inaugural cohort is scheduled for June 16th – August 1st. In just six weeks, participants will receive up to 240 hours of hands-on training, led by expert instructors and delivered using state-of-the-art equipment. The program simulates a traditional 40-hour work week and emphasizes professionalism through structured schedules, required dress codes, and attendance expectations.

EMPWR LA’s primary training focus is Frontline Worker roles—critical positions in the production process that include assembly line workers, machine operators, and quality inspectors. These professionals are responsible for assembling components, monitoring equipment, ensuring product quality, and maintaining production efficiency, all while upholding high safety standards.

“EMPWR LA is about more than just training—it’s about empowering individuals to launch meaningful careers in fields that drive our economy,” said Joseph Brownlee, Dean of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Division at BPCC. “By combining intensive hands-on learning with strong industry partnerships, this program offers a direct path to employment while meeting the urgent demand for skilled labor across the region.”

Enrollment in each EMPWR LA session is limited to 15 participants to ensure a high-quality, immersive learning experience. The program is open to individuals who are at least 18 years old by their first day of employment. All participants must pass a drug screening at a designated clinic before being admitted to the program. They must also demonstrate the mental and physical capacity to follow safety protocols and perform tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting up to 70 pounds, and operating industrial equipment.

EMPWR LA is powered by partnerships with leading employers in advanced manufacturing, industrial production, distribution, and the skilled trades. These companies play an active role in shaping the training curriculum and offering employment opportunities for program graduates.  In Week Four of the program, students focus on résumé writing, interviewing skills, and communication strategies—culminating in an on-campus event that includes guaranteed job interviews with our industry partners. While job placement is not guaranteed, the goal is for every student to complete the program with a clear pathway into an entry-level position that leads to a family-sustaining wage.

EMPWR LA’s all-inclusive tuition is $2,495, covering courses, materials, certifications, hands-on training, and basic safety gear. Financial aid may be available for eligible students. This program is eligible for funding through the MJ Foster Promise Program and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and students are encouraged to apply for both.
