Some careers are defined by the positions held, while others are defined by the people impacted along the way. Chief Kesha Evans has built a career that reflects both.

As Chief Evans prepares to begin the next chapter of her career, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office extends its heartfelt appreciation for nearly three decades of dedicated service, steadfast leadership and lasting contributions to our Corrections Division.

Kesha began her career with BSO on Aug. 1, 1997, after which she built a strong foundation in corrections and continued her education, earning a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University in 2003.

Through hard work, determination and a commitment to serving others, she steadily advanced through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and warden, and major of Jail Operations. On Jan. 17, 2018, Sheriff Julian Whittington promoted her to Assistant Chief, where she has led a division of more than 165 deputies and support staff.

Chief Evans has also made history, becoming the first African American woman to serve as a captain and the first African American woman to hold the rank of assistant chief with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office. Her achievements reflect not only her perseverance and professionalism, but also the path she has helped create for others.

Throughout her career, Chief Evans has led with a remarkable balance of strength and compassion. She is kind, generous and supportive, while also being tough, fair and unwavering in her professionalism. She encourages those around her, holds herself and others to high standards, and understands that true leadership is measured not only by what is accomplished, but by the people who grow along the way.

Chief Evans is an outstanding example of strong female leadership in law enforcement. Her influence reaches beyond the responsibilities of her position, reflected in the people she has mentored, the teams she has strengthened and the example she has set for those fortunate enough to work alongside her.

As she moves forward, her impact on the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office and its Corrections Division will remain. The standards she upheld, the people she encouraged and the legacy she built are lasting contributions to this agency.

Sheriff Whittington said, “Chief Evans has dedicated nearly three decades to serving the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office with strength, compassion and unwavering professionalism. Her leadership has shaped our Corrections Division, strengthened the people around her and opened doors for those who follow. We are grateful for her service and proud of the lasting legacy she leaves behind.”

We wish you continued success, fulfillment and every opportunity to thrive in this next chapter. You have given so much to this agency, and we hope the road ahead brings you the same encouragement and support you have so generously offered others.

Thank you, Chief Evans. Your legacy of leadership, service and breaking barriers will always be an important part of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.
