The LSU Tigers dominated the Auburn Tigers in a 38-17 victory Saturday in Auburn, Ala.
LSU, ranked No. No. 17 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the AP Top 25, improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC.
Unranked Auburn dropped to 4-3 and 2-3. The victory was LSU’s first on the road in the SEC since a victory over Arkansas on Oct. 19, 2024.
The game saw the return of LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green, who missed the previous four games with an injury.
Green caught five passes for 50 yards including a 15-yard touchdown from Sam Leavitt that gave the Tigers a 17-3 lead in the second quarter.
“I think as much as the play of him it’s the feeling,” LSU Head Coach Lane Kiffin said. “You just feel different when you know that he’s there.
“Just having him back in uniform felt good in the locker room before and obviously he played well on a limited play count.”
LSU receiver Jackson Harris had a big day, catching nine passes for 178 yards and touchdowns of 10 in the first quarter and 70 in the second.
Leavitt completed 32-of-45 passes for 387 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. His 4-yards touchdown run gave LSU a 31-10 lead with 17 seconds left in the first half.
LSU went for it on fourth down four times and was successful on three attempts.
“Just felt like there were going to be some situations where I told myself we’re going to err on the side of being aggressive and put it on our players because just felt like it was a really good matchup game for us,” Kiffin said.
LSU, which had 165 yards rushing, outgained Auburn 552 to 271. Dilin Jones had a team-high 92 yards on 21 carries. Leavitt finished with 54 on eight.
LSU limited Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown, the team’s leading rusher, to just 21 yards on 19 carries. That included lost yardage on six sacks by six different Tigers.
Kiffin said the plan was to tackle him low.
He’s jyst so strong he gets away from things,” Kiffin said. “You saw guys hanging onto his leg waiting for the rest of the guys to come.”
Brown completed 15-of-24 passes for 160 yards.
LSU has an open date this week. The Tigers travel host Alabama Nov. 7.
