In a celebration of leadership, growth and future potential, the Commission for Women of Bossier City hosted its annual LEAD Award Luncheon on Thursday, April 14, at The Stable, recognizing outstanding young women from across Bossier Parish schools.

The event brought together community leaders, educators and families to honor our participants in the Commission’s Mentoring Program, highlighting their achievements and commitment to leadership and service.

Susan East, president of the Commission for the 2025–2026 term, opened the luncheon with remarks reflecting on the program’s continued impact.

“This program is about more than recognition — it’s about equipping these young women with the confidence, skills and support they need to lead in their schools, their communities and beyond,” East said. “Each of these students represents the promise of a brighter future for Bossier Parish.”

The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the LEAD Award — the Leadership Enhancement Award for Future Development — a scholarship designed to support participants as they pursue higher education and continue their involvement in community service. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, personal growth and civic engagement.

For 2026, two top scholarships of $1,500 were awarded to Amerien Manning of Bossier High School and Kinesia Maxey of Airline High School.

In addition to the LEAD scholarships, Destiny O’Neal of Parkway High School was also honored with the Magnolia Award, a prestigious distinction sponsored by Bossier City Councilman Brian Hammons. The award includes an additional $500 scholarship and recognizes exceptional dedication, leadership and service to the community.

Organizers said the luncheon not only celebrates the achievements of the students, but also underscores the importance of mentorship in shaping future leaders.

The Commission for Women’s Mentoring Program continues to serve as a platform for empowering young women throughout Bossier Parish, offering guidance, encouragement and opportunities for personal and professional development.
