Authorities have identified the woman killed in a murder-suicide that left two Bossier City police officers injured during a tense standoff Sunday evening.

The Bossier Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 44-year-old Manissa Tranell Howard of Bossier City. Police say Howard was shot and killed by her husband, who then turned the weapon on himself. She was pronounced dead at the scene inside their apartment at the Villaggio on Venicia Drive. The man, whose name has not been released by the coroner’s office, later died at a hospital.

The violence unfolded after the man reportedly told his family he was suicidal and had barricaded himself inside the apartment with his wife. Authorities said he also made threats to shoot anyone who attempted to enter.

When officers attempted to gain entry, Tre Morris and Garyn Simons were both struck by gunfire. Fellow officers pulled them to safety and rushed them to a local hospital. They have since been released and are expected to recover.

After securing the apartment, officers found Howard dead in a bedroom. The man was discovered in another room with a single gunshot wound.

Bossier City Police confirmed the man had a documented history of mental illness, though the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
